Critique Partners Question

Question

Hello lovely authors, quick question for ya. It seems that asking for advice on alpha/beta readers gets a lot of downvotes, so I want to make it clear that I'm not asking for any to BE this person for me, just some tips on how to get started.

I started focusing on writing last summer, it's a huge goal of mine but life took over and I've severely struggled with depression. I teach and a former student was killed and I have a current student who is an alleged gang member, so it's been rough to focus on literally anything.

That being said, do you do your own critiques? I'm asking because I am stuck between just writing, regardless of potential plot holes from months between writing. Or going back to the drawing board, sifting through what I have, make sure it makes sense, etc. I get this nagging voice that goes "what if you've already explained this and you're wasting your time." But at the same time, I have so many ideas that if I don't write them down, the ADHD takes over and they're gone.

So what would you do? Just keep writing and then re-read, edit, all that fun stuff. Or take it from the top and see where you're at?

Am I procrastinating on writing? Probably. But if I don't ask, then the question will plague me until I write it down!
