Is it bad that I consider the 2002 anime of Tokyo Mew Mew an anime for four to seven year olds? That's part of why I love it.

First is because just look at it. Its very clearly a children's anime. It has bright colors that stand out, cutesy happiness and it has a feel good vibe to it a lot of times. Even the dark moments usually have some kind of cushion to soften things. Preschool shows tend to be vibrant and Tokyo Mew Mew is a very vibrant series.

Another reason is the story is rather simple. A lot of shows for preschoolers tend to have simple stories and the story for Tokyo Mew Mew is easy to understand. There is nuance to it with how the aliens hate how humanity polluted the earth and the aliens had to flee to a new planet that was inhospitable. The aliens want their planet back that they lived in long ago. However, even with that it's still rather easy to understand.

The series is so wholesome and friendly and kind. Even though this series can have high stakes, it still feels low stakes in a way. It's incredibly cozy and warm. The heroines are very nice with one another. Even with Minto being a snob, she's a snob in a way a character from a show for 5 year olds would be.

The series even reinforces stuff. For example in Bu-Lings family situation episode it mentions a few times how Bu-Lings mom died and her dad left to perfect his martial arts skills meaning Bu-Ling has to take care of so many siblings on her own.

The pacing is very slow and it has cozy, relaxing background music. It's very apparent about its morality with how whenever Ichigo comes across the aliens she calls them out directly for what they've done in that episode. The series promotes kindness, love and empathy a lot.

It always felt like a very little kids series to me and that's why I love it so much.
