[Student] Rising Junior Aerospace Engineering Student Resume Review – Targeting Space Sector Internships
Hi everyone,
I’m a rising junior Aerospace Engineering student and would appreciate some honest feedback on my resume.
My goal is to land an aerospace engineering internship in the space sector for Summer 2027. I’m currently working an engineering internship, but it isn’t directly related to aerospace. Because of recruiting timelines, I’ve already been applying to Fall internships using this resume, even though I don’t have any bullet points under my current internship yet since I’ve only been there a few weeks.
A few specific questions:
- How does my resume compare to other aerospace/mechanical engineering students at a similar stage (rising junior)?
- Does the content seem competitive for space-sector internships?
- Is the overall structure ATS-friendly and recruiter-friendly?
- Are my bullet points written effectively, or are there areas where the wording, formatting, or structure could be improved?
- Does anything feel overly technical, repetitive, difficult to understand, or lacking impact?
- Is the balance between research, engineering teams, projects, leadership, and work experience appropriate?
I’m also curious about section prioritization.
Right now, my aerospace-related experiences are significantly more relevant to the jobs I’m targeting than my current internship. Once I develop substantial bullet points for my internship, should I:
- Keep the aerospace-related experiences at the top because they’re more relevant?
- Move the internship above them because employers generally expect professional experience first?
When I eventually add internship bullet points, I’ll probably need to reduce content somewhere to stay within one page. What would you remove or shorten first?
Would you remove non-technical activities before touching technical experience and projects, or does that section still provide value?
I’m also wondering how long I should keep my current engineering internship in terms of description length? Especially since it's mostly unrelated to the positions I'm applying to and I don't want it to take away space from more relevant experience.
Finally, I’m always thinking about additional projects. I have ideas for things like a thrust vector control (TVC) motor mount and other projects, but I’m not sure whether my time would be better spent:
- Deepening my existing experiences and technical contributions
- Working on additional technical projects
- Or keeping the resume focused and avoiding project overload
At what point does adding more projects stop helping? Given my current resume, would another substantial project strengthen my candidacy, or would recruiters rather see deeper involvement and stronger accomplishments in my existing experiences?
Also if I were to do research this fall, where I work on a semester long research project, would I put that in the projects or experience section?
If you were reviewing this resume for a space-sector internship, what would be the biggest weakness or red flag that would make you hesitate to interview me?
Any feedback on content, formatting, ATS compatibility, section ordering, bullet quality, overall competitiveness, and how I compare to other students at my stage would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
