How do you explain people who asks about Hindu gods?

I have noticed in west people are confused the way Hindu worship god. They think Hindus have millions of god to pray. Become skeptical that which god should I call when I am in danger or while eating food.
How would one can explain about Hinduism to one who doesn’t know about the religion?
