Fiancé wants to have condo protected in prenup, but also have me financially tied to it
My Fiancé [28M] and I [26F] both work full time and we both make about the same amount annually right now which is about 80k each. He wants a prenup, which I’m fine with, but neither of us have much assets since we are both young and only started working full time after college within the last few years. The only asset worth much before marriage is his condo. He wants to make sure he would still have his condo in case of divorce and I personally am fine with that. However, he also wants me to help contribute to the mortgage and other home ownership costs as well as possibly put my name on the mortgage. He hopes to refinance within the near future to hopefully have a better rate than what he currently has with the help of my income and credit. All of this doesn’t fully sit right with me because if I’m contributing and tying myself financially up in his condo then I think in case of divorce I at least deserve to have something back wether it be a payout or something else.
I am planning on talking to a lawyer about this soon and I won’t sign anything I don’t feel comfortable with. But I want to know, what could be a good compromise in this situation to think about? What are some ideas that could take care of us both without jeopardizing my financial future and his ability to keep the condo in case of divorce? What do other people do in this case?
I also wonder if there are other things I should be thinking about to include in a prenup as well?
Thanks.
