Day 1 on Skyla my experience so far!
Hello!
Making this post because a lot of reviews regarding IUD’s are negative, I want to mention my current experience with Skyla since I got it inserted about 3 hours ago.
Some context:
So i’m 22F, I previously had the copper IUD years ago with no anesthesia, it was a terrible pain for 3 days and I bled super heavily instantly for months.
Sine then I was scared to try again, but after trying the copper IUD, birth control pills, and nexplanon, I had horrible side effects so I decided I was ready to give another shot with Skyla. The copper IUD previously shifted too, it was actually misplaced— horrible experience seriously ANYWAY!
The insertion:
Okay so I was lucky enough to get sedation approved through my insurance. I would HIGHLY recommend this! I wasn’t even aware of this being an option as I wasn’t offered it the first time. I have an absolutely amazing gynecological office in NYC (if anyone wants to know the office is Elite Gynecology Yellowstone Blvd Forest Hills specifically), anyway the staff makes me feel so safe and supported!
I was a little nervous beforehand, did the standard urine test and got told about what to expect, after the procedure etc. Honestly, it was insane. I actually woke up and started asking when we were gonna do the procedure, the nurse chuckled and was like we’re actually done! I didn’t even realize, it was so seamless, I was genuinely confused for minutes wondering when it was going to be placed, because I kid you not— I felt like NO pain.
I was so shocked! I felt no pain. After a few minutes, I started to feel only light cramping, I would say it’s similar to the night before your period when you know it’s going to come the next morning. Very very light, extremely tolerable. I put on my clothes and left, I didn’t even need to call a cab because I felt so fine.
Hours later:
So it’s been 4 hours now, I was initially prepared to cancel all my plans for the next 2 days and curl up in a ball with a heating pad and cry, but NOPE! I’m actually at the hair salon right now, I still feel very light cramping but it’s actually gotten better.
I have not taken any pain killers, I honestly just forgot to bring some lol but I also don’t feel like I really need any because again the pain is so minimal. Anyway, I had breakfast and went to the bathroom shortly after with 0 discomfort, I don’t feel anything inside of me which is something I constantly felt with the copper IUD. When I sit or stand or walk there is no change in this, I just feel nothing.
I am bleeding, but it’s pretty light! It’s like spotting. Anyway, yeah this is my experience so far! I’m extremely satisfied and so happy It’s so painless. I’ll do a final update before bed today and if anyone wants me to do another update tomorrow I’d be more than happy to.
I know these things can be scary, and If I can help another person with a uterus fee safe and reassured I’d be happy to.
