always split in pairs?

we've been wondering this for a while.

we've noticed a pattern whenever we split that we'll discover a "twin" of whoever split. there's not many "physical" differences between the two alters, and they tend to either function almost as one, or front together often.

one "twin" is usually more positive, and happier, while the other tends to hold more anger and resentment. and this has happened with a number of splits, both fictives and brainmade, so it's not anything to do with any source or source influence.

i guess what we want to know is if this is normal or if it happens to anyone else? it might just be a weird thing our brain does to make sure we don't remember the bad stuff (which only works half the time if you can believe it lol).
