Attempt 2 at potty training -tips appreciated

My son turns 3 in a couple weeks. We attempted to potty train about 6 months ago and I gave up on day 3. We were doing the naked method. I think I was putting too much pressure on the situation, he would resist sitting on the potty and he would hold it for like 4-5 hours. I just felt like he wasn't ready and I was frustrated and not in a mental place to commit to it. Now I'm wanting to really commit. We transitioned to pull ups a couple months ago and he doesn't seem to notice any different between that and diapers so I don't plan to go that route. My son does not mind being naked at all, in fact he would probably prefer it that way. Previously, he didn't really care when he would pee the floor, it never phased him. So should I go the naked route or the training underwear route. I feel like maybe trying the underwear route so he can learn to feel the sensation. How often should I take him to the potty? I know people suggest frequently, but in the past, I found that he would resist if I make the trips too frequently. Is every hour ok? I'm worried too frequently may make him resist it. How often do you make them stay on the toilet? That's the biggest issue we are having now....he will sit there then a few seconds later he says all done. He knows how to communicate and knows pee and poop in the potty we just need to make that connection for him. He's not afraid to sit on the potty -we have steps for the normal toilet and a little potty and he does fine sitting on both. I have a feeling he is going to be stubborn and this is going to take long term commitment. I could just use some encouragement and tips to continue.
