New-ish host and these denied-claim posts are freaking me out — what's your actual documentation routine?
Been hosting a few months and so far so good, but I read this sub daily and the number of "guest damaged my car and Turo denied the claim because my photos weren't good enough" posts has me paranoid.
Right now my "system" is honestly just: snap a bunch of photos in the Turo app at checkout plus a few extra in my camera roll. But half the time I realize later I missed an angle, or the timestamps are vague, or the lighting was bad and you genuinely can't tell whether a scratch was already there.
For the veterans who've actually been through a claim (won OR lost):
- What's your real before/after routine at handoff? How many photos / which angles do you swear by?
- Do you just use the Turo app, or do you keep your own separate records — camera roll, a dated folder, some app, a printed checklist?
- Has solid documentation ever actually saved you when you filed, or does Turo deny it anyway?
- Anything you do to get the guest to acknowledge the condition before they drive off?
Trying to build a routine that holds up before I get burned instead of after. Appreciate any war stories.
