So I (Merc) park up in a half-empty Tesco car park, quite a long way from the store entrance. All 5 spaces around me were clear when I arrived, and 4 were clear when I left.

After finishing my shopping I come back to this scene.

I have a number of questions:

1. Why has the Citroën van chosen to reverse into the space directly behind my (admittedly very long) car, when there are dozens of spaces available closer to the store?

2. Why have they reversed so far back that the tow bar has made physical contact with my bumper?

3. Why, upon contacting my car, did they not make the obvious move… check for damage, then park somewhere else?

4. Why did they not think “maybe the Merc owner would like to put their shopping in the boot when they return”?

Miraculously, the solid metal tow bar left not a single mark or crack on my plastic bumper. Somebody is really looking down on me today.

I’ll admit my car was marginally overhanging the bay, it’s simply too long, but I’d rather stick out slightly to the rear than encroach into the carriageway at the front.

They must be completely oblivious and in their own world. I don’t want to jump to conclusions, but they did have a dreamcatcher hanging from their rear view mirror… make of that what you will. These people move amongst us.
