Tim Cook is officially stepping down as Apple CEO at WWDC 2026?
So it actually happened. During the WWDC keynote, Tim Cook announced he is stepping down as Apple CEO. He’s not leaving the company entirely though: he is transitioning to Executive Chairman of the Board, which is pretty much the same move Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos made when they moved away from the daily grind.
Jeff Williams (the current COO) is taking over as the new CEO. It’s not a massive surprise since he's been rumored to be Cook's successor for years and has been running Apple's operations and Apple Watch development, but seeing it actually become official during WWDC is wild.
Cook’s been running the show since 2011 after Steve Jobs passed away, and honestly, love him or hate him for the lack of "crazy innovation" sometimes, he turned Apple into a multi-trillion-dollar monster.
What do you guys think? Is Jeff Williams going to keep playing it safe like Cook, or are we going to see some major shifts in how Apple does things now?
