I left a good relationship to go explore other people. Not sure if I made the right choice.
I’ve been with a woman exclusively for 2 and a half years in what I considered to be a “good relationship” - we rarely argued, we got along well, and laughed a lot together, and it was a comfortable, safe feeling of companionship. No drama, no mind games. Just sound relationship.
It started off as a FWB that turned exclusive after a while. The problem for me is that I felt quite early on that I am not in love with this person. I like them as a person, and find them attractive, but I never experienced those heart shudder feelings for them that I hoped would make me come alive.
She gave me more of luke warm feeling. She was very supportive of me and attentive to my needs, but she could never really make me feel truly seen. I sometimes felt “lonely” being with her even though she provided me companionship.
I would often find myself fantasizing about being with other people and have mentioned to friends that I’m not sure she’s the one I want to spend the rest of my life with.
I decided that I needed to let her go because she deserves someone who can give her 100% of themselves and I needed to take this risk of going out there to see if there is someone who I would truly feel is meant for me.
Did I make a dumb decision letting go of a seemingly “good relationship” or was it wise to let her go because my heart wasn’t fully in it?
