I’m concerned about my mental health and need opinions

Opinion / Thoughts

Hi! I’m a 21F, diagnosed ADHD. Also to mention, I do have autism symptoms, therapist advised to get tested (but I didn’t). I’m just mentioning this so maybe it will give you guys a better insight on how my brain works.

Okay so I’ve always been a little paranoid, but it was always innocent. I define paranoid with things like double checking stuff, making sure I did something, etc. It never really bothered me. I always made a habit of double checking stuff because I know I can forget stuff easily (ADHD).

Lately I’ve been noticing that this paranoia is getting to me. Especially the last month. Few things happened in the past month and that’s why I’m getting concerned. I don’t know if it’s all coincidence or not. But I need opinions.

  1. I had an appointment at 11. I got ready in time, bit of a hurry, etc. I made breakfast on the gas stove, packed it, and left in a hurry and just made it to my bus. In the bus I remembered that I didn’t double check if I really turned off the stove. I could’ve vaguely remember that I turned it off. But because I didn’t double check, I was feeling really anxious, that I stepped out of the bus like 10 stops away, got the bus to home, arrived home. And of course the stove was off. But like I said, I felt this stress just because I didn’t double check. And yes I missed my appointment!

  2. When going to school, same thing as above. When I stepped in on the bus, I was like ‘omg I didn’t double check if I turned the oven off’ and immediately stepped out of the bus. The oven was off of course. And yes I arrived late to school.

  3. I was at the cinema with a friend. 10 minutes before the movie started, was I starting to think about the fact that I didn’t double check if I really locked the car. Like yes I could’ve clearly remember that I press the car button when leaving. But did I really press the right button? Did I double check that? So I really ran as fast as possible to the car, pressed the button multiple times, ran back to the cinema. It took me 15 minutes! The car was parked in a different parking lot! And all because I felt really uneasy and couldn’t rest because of the thought that I didn’t double check. Also when I arrived back. Then the thought came “what if I pressed the ‘open’ button accidentally when walking back?” and I really felt stressed again. My friend calmed me down with “how big is the chance that even that happens” and that kinda helped me. But I still was concerned about the car when walking back to the garage. It was really relieving to see that the car was still there. I feel really bad about this one, because I kinda left my friend there in the cinema waiting for me, while we were finally seeing each other and catching up in a long time. But I can definitely say that this has been the worst I’ve ever been.

A smaller example that I think are still innocent: when I transfer a big amount of money to a friend. I first send a screenshot with their bank account of “is this yours?” and then sent like a small amount, ask them if they received it and can sent proof that they got it. Then I transfer the money. They let me know that they got it. And I still ask for proof (screenshot) if they can show it to me. I always do this! I just need to make sure of everything, that’s how I look at this.

So yeah I really need opinions about this, some insights and maybe even advice. I’ve been stressed for a while (uni student live) so maybe that can play as a factor?
