This is my first time posting here so apologies if any of my questions are too obvious. This is also just sort of a rant as well because I’ve felt a little overwhelmed the past few days.

I just moved in with my dad in the country (east tx) and we recently had a dog kill almost all of the chickens we have. It was really traumatic and the worst part is it had happened not even 10 min before I went outside, but neither me nor my stepmom heard anything. And then that night I saw a completely different dog tearing apart a possum in my front yard and I had to get an airsoft gun and shoot at it. I have always been an animal lover but these dogs have got me pissed off .. i am not used to seeing so much carnage

Anyways, so literally the next day I find out my dad had my stepmom go and get a whole bunch of chicks and a new rooster. Which to me seems a little bit too soon, I feel like we need to address the fencing issue. We haven’t let the chickens out since it happened, so adding more just doesn’t seem sensible. But that’s my dad for you.
And then today I come out and I have a dead chick. I realized the heat lamp was still on from the night before and they were basically cooking. I turned it off and they immediately became more active but…

On to the questions..

\-Based on the image I provided, and my location, is this area ideal for the babies?

It seems kind of stuffy , I could open the windows but chatgpt said not to have a draft right on them.

\-Is there anything I can do about the dogs, apart from fixing the fence (which is in the works) and shooting the dog if it comes back. (If I hear/see/am awake for it)

\-anything else I should know so I can hopefully not have any more dead chickens on my hands

Thanks if you got all the way through this, i really just wanted to let this out and get some feedback

TDLR; chickens died, now new chicks.. how to be a chicken parent?
