Knocking noise; 1997 Ranger 2.3L
Calling myself a novice would be an understatement for working on cars myself, but wanting to see if I could get this diagnosed. I’ve noticed a knock coming from the front end of my 97 manual (273k miles) the past couple of days. We have two rangers (the other is a 1999 4.0L) so I try to switch them out every week or so. It might be worth mentioning it’s showing a P0141 code right now, but I don’t think that’s the issue.
This one has not been driven in 3-4 weeks since we’ve been using the other truck and my wife’s car for numerous things lately but I decided to switch this week since it’s been longer than usual. I noticed the knock today while I was sitting in idle, seems to go away while driving. I checked my oil level and it was good, though I’m close to the change mileage so I might go ahead and do that anyways. I’ve read elsewhere that this can be a timing belt tensioner issue, but wanted to see who else has experienced this and how they fixed it. Thanks!
