He just wants to pee on furniture
I am at my wits end with our 3 year old male cat. No UTI found with testing, just a years long history of loving to pee on soft furniture that does not have our human scents on it frequently.
He does not pee on our clothing if it's laying on the floor anywhere (even the laundry room which is where his food and litter is), our beds in our bedrooms, or our couch; but we have to keep our spare bedroom doors closed to protect the beds, put rocks in the big planters and have had to get rid of all cat beds. Occasionally he would urinate on something soft if it was left on the hard basement floor for long periods of time, but I figured that was my poor choice. This used to be manageable.
Recently he has decided to start peeing on a couch and pleather rocking chair that doesn't get sat on as frequently. I used white vinegar, enzyme cleaner, and Mean Orange on them but he keeps coming back to the rocking chair to urinate.
There are no new stressors in the home that I can think of other than I have been keeping him downstairs more frequently since we cannot trust him on the furniture when we are not home. I worry about his water intake as he only seems to want to drink water out of the toilet or licking the shower wall. He has no interest in water out of the bowl, bubbler or circulator. I clean his litter box every other day to daily to try to keep him happy with it.
Any recommendations on keeping him away from the furniture that he has chosen to focus on or to change this behavior? I don't want to re-home him but I don't want to spend every day shoving my face onto things to sniff test if he pissed on and it's beginning to become a ridiculous amount to think about on a daily basis just to not have our home destroyed.
