NSFW due to picture of partially healed surgical wound near eye. IMO not awful looking but you never know. 

TLDR: My boyfriend and I feel confident that a stitch was missed during my cat's entropion surgery. He is on day 12 and I want to let him out on day 17 but am concerned if it is the right choice.

Back story my cat is a 5-year-old american short hair and is very skittish, he will do whatever he can to get out of a situation he does not like. He runs if you walk in his direction, he does not let anyone pet him but me, he is still somewhat fearful of my boyfriend of 3.5 years (he is very large) as he only lets him play with him with a fishing-pole-esk toy. At one point he had a wound on his face and I tried to put a cone on him but he flailed like a fish that's been caught being pulled out of the water on a fishing line to get it off him. 

I had noticed that his eye had been bothering him for a while and noticed that it looked like some fur was rubbing against his eye but I oddly didn't think much of it. But over time he'd begun winking and rubbing his eye more often to a point where it looked like he had started scratching and leaving red marks around his eyes. So, I had inspected the eye one day and wiped it with a tissue which was a mistake as the next day the eye would only open about a third of the way. I then got an emergency appointment with the vet hospital that was nearby. I quickly threw together the crate with the clips but did not use the screws as I had to leave quickly... When I got to the vet she said that he had entropion and they were able to take him for surgery the same day. 

When I picked him up from surgery he was asleep and had a cone on I then took a 10 minute drive to a nearby PetSmart, when I parked he immediately woke up kicked off the cone and started flailing around in the crate. I then called the vet's office saying I wanted to go back for more sedative and to have the cone put back on him. They were hesitant but said I could come back. 

When I got back to the vet's office I held the crate from the bottom since I knew I had not secured it properly and since he was flailing I was afraid of it bursting open. Unfortunately, he still was flailing so hard that it did burst open. He ran into the parking lot and hid under a car at that point the vet techs found out what happened and approximately 8 came out. He wound up running into a very thick like brush foresty area, then across a very busy intersection where a good samaritan caught him although my cat then proceeded to bite and scratch him but he was able put him back into the then secured crate. 

The vet techs then brought him back into the vet's office pumped oxygen into his crate and pretty much gave him back to me. The vet said that I can't really take my cat anywhere, to just increase the dose of medicine and I can't force him to wear a cone.

He had done fairly well with the medication, except for washing himself and minor rubbing. We had taken multiple days off to monitor him and make sure that we were here just in case he needed to go back to the vet due to the fact that he would refuse to wear a cone. I did try to use those flower-esque cones but they were very heavy on him and he was able to get it off.

A few days later after the major swelling went down I noticed that there was an exposed area in the incision. I had noticed a red spot earlier but I wasn't sure if that was normal or not. It looked like an area where the vet missed a stitch which both my boyfriend and I agree. I talked to the vet and she said that he could use another stitch but it would be okay to heal on its own.

Of course on day 9 he actually scratched himself but he seemingly just removed the loose skin that had not been stitched down. In my opinion this has pushed him back a few days.

The current issue is that he is starting to feel better and is starting to look at the bedroom door more. He is supposed to be healed on day 14 after the surgery but as of day 12 he still has an exposed wound. I want to let him out on day 17 and I just talked to the vet and she believes it would be fine but I am still concerned since I have another cat who is an aggressive player who I just caught hissing at him through the door. 

Truthfully I feel like I'm going through this blind and completely by myself and I had a really terrible string of luck with this whole situation. I do not feel the vet has been very supportive as she has been somewhat lackadaisical, telling me just to give him more medicine.
