Warped Reflections (previously "Limerence in Gray")

Feedback Please

In the dreary mist of a sleepy coastal town
Stands a statue that thinks itself quite profound
A grizzly standoff of two beasts divine
With a resounding address that makes not a sound

An aging lion of ashen and matted fur
Fights a silhouette of something ancient and unpure
This creature of swollen head and thinnest skin
Will prove too much for the lion to endure

But the tragedy is not the lion's death
Or even that such a creature draws breath
It is the cause of the effect laid bare A choice made by many souls who drank from the Lethe*

The statue of granite changes with perspective
Taken for granted by the boldly deflective
A slight was magnified by a large body of dread
A sight of dark water rendered logic ineffective

The lions pride turned inconvenience to a fatal struggle
When ego created its simple trouble
Of a fear buried under a future rubble
The lion saw an ocean, but it was only a puddle

*Lethe - (Greek mythology) a river in Hades; the souls of the dead had to drink from it, which made them forget all they had done and suffered when they were alive
