How to talk to boss about absenteeism?

Work-Life Balance and Stress Management

Hi Reddit. I am 26F and a new graduate. In October, I started my dream job. I am fascinated by the content of my work and really enjoy the people I work with. Management tells me that I am performing really well and that should there be an opportunity for a promotion, I will definitely be considered. I feel truly blessed to be in the position I’m in.

Only there’s a slight problem: I have been repeatedly ill or burnt out. My work is busy, but I also have a very busy schedule outside of work (I also dance professionally). I am able to balance these priorities well but this year has been particularly busy. I also don’t have the strongest immune system, so since the New Year, I have continually gotten sick or had trouble sleeping. As a result, I’ve had to call out of work. When this happens, my manager doesn’t have an issue, except I feel guilty because I’m almost out of sick days.

Normally, I am a very committed employee and while I’m prone to getting sick, I’m usually not sick THIS often. I have a doctor’s appointment scheduled, but I am worried that it’s a bad look. Should I talk to him about it, and if so, what should I tell him?
