Any insight on visiting Venice vs visiting Trieste?

Hi all,
Me and my girlfriend are planning a small trip through europe and are planning to go from Bled to italy, however we are undecided on whether to stop at Venice or Trieste as both seem like beautiful places but we only have time to visit one of them.

Personally,
My thoughts are that Venice is extremely more expensive and from what it seems extremely crowded, however i am unsure on whether Trieste has enough to keep us busy for long enough, whilst keeping a budget in mind.

I am wondering opinions of these places, pros and cons or an idea of expenses for a 3 night stay. Any help is appreciated!
