Vitamin C, Stimulant Medication, and Electrolyte Packets
Hey everyone! This post is not about telling you how to feel in regards to vitamin C and its affects or lack of affect on stimulant medication. There seems to be a lot of opinions on if it's true that vitamin C affects stimulant medication or if that's only within a certain window of time or if it has no effect at all or if maybe only certain people or certain forms of stimulant meds are affected by it? Etc. Etc. This post isn't for arguing over that. This is only meant to a be a little heads up if you ARE someone choosing to take caution with/trying to avoid combining vitamin C and your stimulant medication. Personally I don't take the "don't combine stimulant medication and vitamin C" as a hard and fast rule but just a general exercise in caution. Especially taking them close together. However something that caught me off guard that I foolishly didn't think to look into was electrolyte packets.
I've seen online a surge of folks pushing electrolyte packets as the new must have for your health and all. There's definitely a discussion to be had about the pros and cons there. However, I had decided to go looking into several brands of elctrolytes to find the one best for my activity level and amount of sweating I'm doing now that it's summer and hot out. And I felt quite foolish when I realized I never stopped to consider how vitamin C may be, and indeed is, present in many of these packets! Many of the ones I looked at contained 60% - 100% of the considered average daily need!
So again please don't twist this post into telling anyone what to do or how to feel about combining vitamin C and stimulant medication, I just wanted to throw this out there for anyone who does potentially need this heads up to remember to keep on look out!
