Virtual Credit Cards
Over the last couple of years, I’ve been on the credit card hacking game. My catch-all card is a Citi Double. Because of that, there are a lot of reoccurring bills I put on it (Internet, cell phone, utilities, and a couple of subscriptions). About a week ago, that credit card number got leaked and unauthorized charges were made on it. I was easily able to get it reported in a new card issued (props to CITI for making it easy) But now I wanted to know your thoughts on creating multiple virtual card numbers through CITI and using it with these reoccurring payments.
Obviously going through each one and updating my credit card is time-consuming, and if fraud happens again, I need to repeat this exercise. It made me think about creating virtual numbers which I can easily cancel and regenerate if need be.
Has anyone else done this with bills like their utilities, internet, etc.? Obviously the first question is, does it work? Pros and cons of doing it like this.
I’ve never used virtual card numbers before and wanted to know if anyone has experience with CITI. When the transaction comes through, does it tell you what number it used? Figured if fraud happens again I’m able to narrow down which company is the culprit, that is, if this is something CITI tells you.
