What are you all doing for life insurance policies?

Hello, I'm 40 years old and due to a change of employment, I no longer have life insurance benefits (my previous job provided the benefit). My partner still has life insurance for themselves through their work benefits.

As for me, where would I get started in terms of getting life insurance? I have a family and mortgage and would want coverage. Do people go through brokers for this? Anything to look out for? Help me adult :-)
