My grandfather was born in 1927 in Modugno, Italy. He came to the United States through Ellis Island as a young man, worked hard his entire life, and was my best friend. He passed away in 2018, and during his final weeks in hospice he gave me this ring.

I lost it sometime in January 2025 and have been trying to find another copy of the same model ever since. Losing it has been heartbreaking. It was one of my most treasured possessions and one of the few tangible connections I still had to my grandfather.

I believe this is a manufactured catalog piece rather than a one-of-a-kind custom ring, which means other copies should exist. My mother confirmed that she purchased it at Fred Meyer Jewelers in Medford, Oregon, around 2001 or 2002.

What the Ring Looks Like

• 14K yellow gold, stamped “14K” inside the band

• Rectangular face with chamfered corners and a beveled gold frame surrounding the inlay

• The opal face is divided into three sections by two diagonal gold bars: a small triangle on the left, a wider parallelogram in the center, and a small triangle on the right

• The opal inlay continues down the angled sides of the face rather than being limited to the top surface

• Each shoulder features a textured nugget pattern framed by flat gold rails and divided into two stacked panels by a thin vertical gold rail

• Deep peacock-blue opal with green flashes. Because the opal is handmade inlay, the color play will vary from ring to ring, but the design should be identical

Photos are attached. The first few images are clean studio photographs from a now-sold eBay listing of the same model that I saved for reference. Unfortunately, that ring had already been sold in person at Kei’s Collectables in Layton, Utah, before I was able to complete the purchase. That experience is what ultimately started this search.

What I Am Looking For

• Anyone who owns this ring and would be willing to sell it

• Anyone who knows of one for sale or can help me locate a seller anywhere in the world

• Anyone who recognizes the manufacturer or wholesaler

The ring was sold under the Fred Meyer Jewelers house line and likely originated from a chain-store opal inlay supplier active during the early 2000s. Based on design style, Kabana of Albuquerque, New Mexico, is currently my leading theory, though I am far from certain. Other names that surfaced during my research include Wilson Bros., Anasazi Trader, and John C. Rinker.

If you worked in the jewelry trade during that era, recognize the design, remember the catalog, or know who manufactured these rings, I would be incredibly grateful for any information.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and for any help you can provide.
