Beginner at Torrey Pines?

My boyfriend and I are visiting my sister in San Diego in late August. I am brand new to golf, he is an okay/moderate player (his words), but loves the game, knows all the courses, etc.

I thought of getting him a round at Torrey Pines for his birthday while we are visiting, with me just riding along and him actually playing to be able to keep pace of play better. Is that okay at this famous of a course or would it be uncouth to bring him there? I want to surprise him so don’t want to ask his opinion but want to get ahead of reservations.
