Driving is scary af

I just had my first driving lesson ever today. Instructor was super nice and friendly. Didn't berate me, or force me to do anything out of the ordinary. He even said at the end I did good for the first time, considering I drove home. However, I felt I did terrible. His hand was on the wheel all the time to make sure I wasn't drifting. I didn't look left and right before crossing a road on a green light. My eyes kept drifting to something else on the road or in the car, despite trying to focus on road ahead. Occasionally I went above the speed limit by a bit. It all felt so fast. I don't know how I'm gonna magically go from this to being a good driver.
