Judicial Externship with a Low GPA

I really want a judicial externship during the spring semester next year. My GPA increased exponentially from one 1L fall to 1L spring I’m still right below a 3.0 (2.998) lol.

Is there a certain method or play book I should follow so that I can achieve my goal? I know for sure I’ll be in the 3.0’s by the end of 2L fall but that might be too late to apply for a judicial externship in the spring. I also don’t have any judicial connections as of right now…
