"even up" gifts?

Weird situation: friend asked me to host a joint birthday party for our kids. We each invited our preschool classes. On the invite, I asked for guests to only bring gifts for the child that invited them.

It looks like my side has about 6 families coming...her side has 1. I'm worried her kid is going to feel left out with gifts. I already took my kid to choose a gift for her kid. Now I'm thinking if my husband and I should also choose a gift for her kid? If I should ask my parents who are also coming to choose a gift for her kid?

My friend's kid is the one who wanted a party and her family is going through a difficult time so I wanted to make sure this is a nice party for them. My friend's love language is also gift giving. Not sure if I'm overthinking this.
