I (25F) hate the way my boyfriend (29M) drives
Forgive formatting issues, I’m on mobile and haven’t posted much on here before.
My (29M) boyfriend and I (25F) have been together for a little over a year and have a healthy and happy relationship for the most part. I recently got a car that I’ve been saving for years to be able to afford and am extremely cautious when driving. We live in a major city so there are plenty of aggressive and unsafe drivers around, as well as ample pot holes and tight streets.
My issue is that my boyfriend always wants to be the one to drive places but he’s a terrible driver. He is aggressive, slams on the breaks, tailgates, stops directly in crosswalks, and is constantly running full speed into pot holes and speed bumps. His car is demolished because he took an illegal turn on a busy road and got clipped on the right side. I’ve had issues with his driving since we first started dating and have had to tell him to stay off his phone while driving constantly.
He has issues with motion sickness and says he gets really sick being the passenger in any car so I feel pressured to continue to let him drive and prefer being in my car because it’s much safer (his brakes squeak and his car is really old). Every time I complain about his driving he gets very defensive and I can tell he wants me to leave him alone but I want to find a way to approach him about this issue. I have no idea what to do since he gets so defensive about this issue and will go as far as to say we should just always drive separately now. Please help!
Tdlr: My boyfriend is a shitty driver but gets carsick when he’s the passenger and I’m scared he’s going to fuck up driving my brand new car at this point.
