The state of the game

Game Play

Once again a post about the responsiveness of the game. EA FC is in a disgusting state at the moment.

The biggest problem isn’t even losing. It’s the constant feeling that I’m fighting the game itself. Every input feels delayed. Skill moves come out late. Tackles happen after the attacker has already gone past my defender. First touches feel random.

Then I load up GOALS and suddenly it feels like my controller is actually connected to the game. When I pass and the ball leaves the foot when I expect it to. Dribbling feels sharp. Defending feels reactive. Even mistakes feel like my own fault instead of the game’s fault.

GOALS isn’t perfect, but when a new competitor can make new players immediately notice how much more responsive the controls feel that’s a HUGE problem for EA.

Once you’ve experienced a more responsive football game it’s impossible not to notice the input delay, sluggish animations and heavy gameplay in EA FC.

At this point, the biggest rival to EA FC isn’t another football game’s content, licenses or graphics. It’s the simple feeling of pressing a button and having something actually happen.
