Introduction
Been lurking and reading for a while and decided to introduce myself.
I'm 70, diagnosed in February with left-sided TN ILC, grade 2, ER <1%, 1 lymph node involved. My care is complicated by two things:
-
I had lymphoma of the thyroid in 1989 and was treated with adriamycin/vincristine/cytotoxan and it was decided I'm unable to be treated with these drugs again for cardiac-related reasons.
-
Shortly after this DX, I was diagnosed with my third occurrence of High Grade Serous Ovarian Carcinoma, with mets to the liver. My gyn-onc feels I cannot afford to take the two months off treatment for ovarian cancer to have surgery for the breast cancer and the breast onc agrees.
Currently being treated weekly with Taxol/Carboplatin, every 3 weeks with Keytruda, and every 2 weeks with avastin. Weekly growth factor shots for 3 days following chemo. This is week 10.
So far both cancers seem to be responding to treatment. I can no longer feel the original lump that led to the diagnosis, and my CA125 (used to track ovarian cancer) has gone down to pre-cancer levels. A PET scan is planned after week 12.
I'm thankful to have a great care team, a husband who is very responsive and caring, and an otherwise good life. My mother died of breast cancer in 2004 at age 70. I didn't know to ask what type she had or what type of treatment, etc. I only know she had chemo. There seems to have been a lot of progress made since 2004, and I'm thankful to have access to what's available.
