Most people underestimate how much it actually costs to trademark a name

One thing that surprises a lot of people is how quickly the cost of a trademark can add up.

A lot of founders go in thinking it’s just the filing fee, and that’s it. But that’s usually just the starting point. Once you factor in things like multiple classes, potential issues with the application, or needing to fix something later, the total can look very different from what you expected.

The tricky part is that you don’t always realize this upfront. Sometimes it only becomes clear after you’ve already filed and you’re in the middle of the process.
