Ok, just hear me out.

I just started Season 3, so I'm not totally up to date. Spoilers for Dr. Stone Anime S1 & S2 abound.

In the first S3 ending song, some main characters are represented in playing Cards in very nice illustrations which makes them look god-like. I read some Greek classics recently, so my brain is very Greek-wired right now, and I started comparing Main Characters to Ancient Greek Gods.

Dr. Stone Characters as Greek Gods

Before I continue, here's a list in order of how obvious it is to me:

No doubt about these

• Senku: Zeus
  • Can harness lightning.
  • Ruler of the Skies
  • King of the Gods
• Ryusui: Poseidon
  • Ruler of the seas
• Kohaku: Athena
  • Carries a shield
  • Patron of Warriors
  • Known for her "bright-eyes"
• Kaseki: Hephaestus
  • God of artisans
  • Known for his lameness, which I relate to his old age in the show
• Minami: Aphrodite
  • Goddess of Love, Beauty, passion
• Gen: Hermes
  • Trickster god, patron of thieves
• Ginro: Dionysus
  • God of Wine, insanity, theatre
  • Also known for his death and resurrection
• Suika: Artemis
  • A hunter who roams the forests and wilderness
  • Goddess of childbirth/child-care
  • Suika's stealth and going around the forest unseen looking for clues are the traits of a Hunter

Stretching it a bit

• Ruri: Hera
  • Goddess of Marriage, Wife of Zeus & Queen of the Gods
  • Ruri marries Senku for a bit
• Ukyo: Apollo
  • The archer and his overall demeanor gives me Apollo vibes
• Taiju: Demeter
  • Goddess of harvest and agriculture
  • Taiju is the head of the Farming division
  • If it wasn't for the gender-swap it would be clearer
• Nikki: Nike
  • Goddess of victory, athletic woman
  • Similar name

Big stretch

• Kinro: Ares?
  • Known for his spear-fighting and warrior attributes
  • But there's other warriors in the show and Ares is also known for his bloodlust
  • Is Magma Ares?
• Yuzuriha: ???
  • I couldn't find a nice parallel
  • For being a main character, the only god remaining in the Pantheon is Hestia, goddess of the Hearth. But Yuzuriha is not related to fire or "the home" in any substantial way.
• Chrome: ???
  • The other main character without a parallel.
  • In the show he's a mix of Senku and Kaseki but with the gathering trait
  • Who could he be?

What about the ISS crew?

The Greek Gods in the Pantheon all have parents, so if Stone World characters are Pantheon Gods, then the ISS crew have to be their forebearers, the Titans!

These are even looser but we could have:

• Byakuya: Cronus
  • Father of Zeus (Senku)
  • God of time (at least as the roman Saturn and later depictions as Chronos)
    • Time Capsule? huh?
  • Previous ruler of the Gods
• Lillian: Mnemosyne
  • Goddess of Memory
  • I like that her singing is kept to the future as a memory of the past civilization
• Darya: Rhea
  • As a mother-like figure
• Connie Lee: Theia
  • Mother of the Sun, married to Hyperion
• Shamil: Hyperion
  • Father of the Sun, married to Theia
• Yakov: ???
  • Would fit Cronus in his relationship to Darya (Rhea) but Byakuya as Chronos is more fun.

Other Greek connections

Dr. Stone has references to Ancient Greek themes and myths in its core plot and events, so this connection is not super far-fetched to me.

• There's Medusa as the petrification device
  • She was a Gorgon that turned people into Stone
• Their Ship is called Perseus
  • The Hero that killed Medusa
• The poisonous gas Sulfurina is depicted as a killer goddess that characters can sense
  • This is a classic way for Ancient Greek culture to interpret things they didn't understand
• The 100 tales are transmitted orally through generations as myths
  • This is how all culture was passed down for centuries, including through most of Ancient Greek history, until writing was popularized.

Finally, I really like the Dr. Stone oversimplification of each character being "the best in the world" at specific things. Turning these characters into Gods that represent these traits and are their personification fits perfectly IMO

What do you think?

I know I'm overthinking this 10000% but who cares. What other characters from the show have a matching Greek God? Go crazy on S3 characters or others I missed, I just don't know the new ones yet.
