Missed my chance with a gym crush. Is one final attempt reasonable or crossing a line?
Am I crazy for wanting to take one final shot here?
There was a woman I used to see regularly at my gym. We only spoke once briefly to exchange names, but over several months there was a lot of repeated eye contact, noticing each other around the gym, and what felt like genuine mutual attraction. I would often catch her looking at me through mirrors or across the gym, and there were enough moments that I developed a strong feeling she was interested too.
The problem is that I never acted on it. She always seemed focused on her workout, and I didn’t want to be the guy who bothers women at the gym. So I kept telling myself I’d talk to her another day.
Then she suddenly stopped coming.
A few weeks later I came across her on a couple of dating apps. I sent a like/message but never got a match or response. Part of me wonders whether she ever even saw them given how many likes some women receive on those apps.
After not seeing her for over a month, I asked one of her friends whether she had moved. I also mentioned that I had been interested in getting to know her but didn’t approach because I wanted to be respectful. A few days later, the friend confirmed that she had moved and no longer worked out at our gym.
More recently, I happened to learn which gym she appears to go to now. It’s about 20 minutes away from my current gym.
Here’s my dilemma: I still have a strong gut feeling there was attraction on both sides and that neither of us acted on it. At the same time, the dating app likes went unanswered.
Part of me feels like I’ll always wonder “what if?” if I do nothing. I’m not looking to pressure her or pursue her repeatedly. My thinking is that one respectful conversation and a clear answer, whether it’s yes or no, would at least give me peace of mind and closure instead of replaying this in my head for years since I’m positive there was a strong tension between us.
My “one final attempt” would be to go to that gym, work out normally, and if I happened to see her, introduce myself properly and ask if she’d be interested in grabbing coffee sometime. If she wasn’t interested, I’d wish her well and leave it there permanently.
Would that be reasonable, or would that cross a line and come across as creepy given the circumstances?
Looking for honest opinions from both men and women. Am I overestimating the significance of the gym interactions, or does this sound like a missed opportunity that neither person acted on?
