WCIgami Twitter account is up and running. Feedback appreciated!
Hello everyone,
Inspired by Jon Bois and his "scorigami" idea for the NFL, I have decided to create a similar concept for football. The Twitter/X account I have created is @ WCIgami scores in football (soccer) are much more common than scores in the NFL, I have decided to create the methodology as follows:
- It takes each final score and looks at the minutes the goals were scored. If this combination of final score and minutes the goals were scored has never happened before at the World Cup, it is considered a "WCIgami".
- Not a "WCIgami" Example:
If Mexico-South Africa ends 1-0 and the only goal is scored in the 42nd minute, this is not considered a "WCIgami". This combination has happened before, when Morocco beat Portugal 1-0 in 2022, with En-Nesyri scoring in the 42nd minute.
- "WCIgami" Example:
If Mexico-South Africa ends 3-2, with goals scored in minutes 23, 25, 39, 47, and 64, this will be considered a "WCIgami", as the combination of final score and minutes the goals were scored has never happened before in a World Cup match.
-A few possible clarifications:
Who wins the match ("Home" or "Away") does not matter, a 2-1 result or 1-2 result are treated the same.
Added time is considered "unique". A goal in 45'+2 is different than in 45' or 45'+1.
Goals in extra time are also considered unique. A goal in 110' will be considered a unique marker.
Obviously, as the number of goals increases, the likelihood of a "WCIgami" also increases. Due to this, it may not be as interesting as NFL's scorigami, but I thought this could be a interesting project to build. Again, the Twitter/X account is @ WCIgami.
This is my first time working with an automated twitter account, so I hope it goes well, but please bear with me if there are any issues to begin with! Happy to answer any questions or take any feedback if anyone has anything.
