How to deal with the same stakeholders requiring urgent action every time
In my current role every time a specific director comes to ask my team for something it is 100% urgent it needs to be done ASAP.
I feel that this is extremely unfair to my team because we are a small company and already completely overloaded with work.
The same director every time has really high urgency and it makes me feel that the director is behaving in a way where we are not given a fair chance to prioritize.
The executive that is in charge of our team will rarely set expectations with this director and most people seem to think it’s just par for the course on that side of the business. However, I know that what’s most likely happening is this director has learned that if they ask for something ASAP people will drop everything and work on it for them and as a result they have not had to appropriately plan and prioritize initiatives when they happen.
I also think they are not adequately setting expectations on their side of the business that certain process changes engineering projects and security projects take time and that ASAP is not a good mechanism. I’m starting to become frustrated with urgent asks coming from the same few stakeholders over and over and over again and I feel like something needs to change. Advice please
