Magus' Surface Tension question can stay on a broken improvised weapon forever until it completely shatters?

This is, I think, the relevant text of the feat regarding my question. Using the feat takes one action

Prerequisites Resurgent Maelstrom Hybrid Study
Requirements You’re wielding a broken weapon.
You encase the pieces of your broken weapon together with water you pull from the surrounding environment. The weapon’s broken condition is temporarily suppressed, and the weapon deals an additional amount of bludgeoning damage equal to twice the number of weapon damage dice; 

So, questions:

1. Is there anything preventing me from out of combat using the feat to make multiple broken improvised weapon get the benefits of Surface Tension, since it doesn't expire
2. Does the benefit only stays on the weapon as long as I am wielding it i.e., I am always holding one in each hand (if its 1h or 2h) or the initial requirement of having to "wield" the weapon is for the initial use of surface tension but afterwards I can stop wielding the weapon but the benefit will stay?
