People don't want to be my friend when their life is good
It seems like I am the trauma friend. I am super empathetic and I put 100% into all relationships/friendships, etc. But it seems like once things start getting better for my "friends" they drop me. Here are just a few examples:
1. My sister: We were never close growing up. Then she went through a divorce and we got incredibly close. Nails every 2 weeks, Greys anatomy marathons with wine and snacks. She is now happily married with 2 more kids and she rarely texts me anymore.
2. T: We got incredibly close when her baby daddy r*ped her and left her and the kids. I was there for her 24/7. I have a family of my own, and would still go out of my way to be there with her. Including going to her house with pizza and snacks at 1 am because she was having a really rough mental breakdown. Let her move in with me for a few weeks, helped her find housing, etc. Now she has her own place and is in a better mental place.... I am never asked to hangout or come over.
3. K: We got super close during postpartum and pregnancy (2 back to back babies). Texting 24/7 and BEST FRIENDS. She is now out of that postpartum fog and goes out dancing and having fun... never invites me. And now we barely talk.
These are just a few examples from the past 5 years... there are so many more going all the way back to middle school. I get it.. I am not the "fun" friend. I rarely drink, I like to go to bed early so I can wake up early and run. I am ambitious and very goal focused. But I'd like to think I am still good company. I am ALWAYS down for an adventure, can hold down a good conversation and am honest, kind and authentic. But I just never get the invite. To anything. Even when I try to be the person to invite others, it fails. I started a monthly dinner series where I hosted a dinner each month.. first one went great, then it died off despite everyone saying they loved it.
I don't mind being that person. I don't mind being there for people. But it does wear on me emotionally and is really heavy. Then when tables turn and I need someone there for me, or even just to get out of the house and hangout with a friend....crickets. I can't help but feel like there is something wrong with me.
