26f considering leaving relationship with 25m over finances

I (26F) have been with my boyfriend (25M) for about 15 months. We are very compatible as people such as having similar political opinions, moral values, and sense of humor. We are overall very happy together and in love. However, my partner is from a family that is very bad with money and his terrible money habits are growing into a deal breaker. His parents are in a lot of debt, especially credit card debt largely caused by buying things they want but can't afford (purses, clothes, new cars, etc). He says they never taught him much about how to manage his money. Making smart financial decisions was a big value in my family and it's important to me.

He has been working multiple part time jobs and just finished his undergraduate degree this summer. He quit the job that kept him afloat last fall because he didn't like his boss, was unemployed for months and essentially relied on me during that time, and now works around 15 hours per week. He is currently looking for full time jobs in the fall, and I am not sure if I should stick this out and see if things get better once he has more income. I currently work full time and make enough to live fairly comfortably, but I make less than $100k in a HCOL area. I am in no means rich and do not have any family that are able to support me if anything major happens to me.

He has been in many situations lately where he's short on rent or short on tuition and I lend him money. He has not paid me back since November and owes me hundreds of dollars. He borrows my things a lot and uses my car more than I do but rarely pays for gas.

I feel like l'm being taken advantage of. I told him months ago that even though he is in a rough situation, he should try to save at least a little money each month, even if it's only $5. I can't be the only one saving for our future. He said this was do-able, but has not saved a single penny since then. We talk about moving in together next year and getting a dog, buying a new car since mine is nearly 15 years old, etc. However, it's obvious these future plans require my generosity. He is going into a career field that is generally lower paying, so even once he starts working full time, I will still be the breadwinner in our relationship.

I feel like breaking up with him because he doesn't have money is shallow. He is a very kind and respectful boyfriend overall, and I really do love him and enjoy his company. I know once he gets a job, the financial problems will be somewhat alleviated, but I also know he does not have good habits. However, I feel like I shouldn't be compelled to stick around in a relationship where I have to provide for him and myself. I don't have the finances to keep this up, and l've had to give up things I want to do because I spend too much money on this relationship.

I stayed single for most of my 20s and always focused on saving money, traveling, getting an education, and my sport that I have been doing recreationally since age 3. I liked my old lifestyle but was lonely. My lifestyle has changed a lot because of this relationship and financial constraints it puts on me. I don't want to be trapped in a relationship where I always have to spend all my money on us and give up on my personal dreams. For context, I am starting grad school in the fall, and I feel like I screwed myself over by giving so much of my savings to him and now having a much weaker safety net for myself. I feel deep down that the right relationship for me at this time would be one that offers me more security, but I worry about regretting throwing away a relationship where we are so compatible. What do you think is more important for me in the long run: feeding a relationship with someone who makes me happy but is pushing me into financial insecurity, or letting go and rebuilding my life alone while doing what I enjoy?

TLDR: my boyfriend relies on me financially and it is making me rethink how happy our relationship really is. is it time to walk away and focus on myself?
