Waitlist? Or no waitlist?

Is a waitlist for people who want to try the proper app, or is it for willing alfa and beta testers? Is a waitlist a public thing on say Facebook or is it in a document in your computer? And why do one want to have a waitlist? Tell me all and everything I need to know about this, please.

Asking for a friend :P
