republican act 9262. violence against woman law.
As a single guy who has made three long-term visits to the Philippines and enjoyed most of my time there, I'm considering early retirement in the country.
What are everyone's thoughts on the generic, non-specific, catch-all 9262 law and the possibility that it can be weaponized against foreigners to extort money or punish them based on a woman's personal grievances? The law seems incredibly broad.
From my understanding, actions such as yelling, raising your voice, or moving a woman into your home and then asking her to leave when the relationship doesn't work out (which could be interpreted as economic violence) may be considered violations of the law.
Has anyone seen situations like this play out in real life? Getting caught up in this law, spending years in a Philippine prison, and being denied bail seems like a serious risk. Do most people simply plan on trying to pay the woman off to resolve the situation?
All thoughts and experiences are welcome.
