Just diagnosed at 39 and now I'm terrified I've already passed this to my kids. Late-diagnosed parents from what did you do?
Hey almost 39 years old from Pakistan was recently diagnosed
After decades of being called lazy, flaky, serial procrastinator and "so much potential wasted," I finally put the pieces together myself and walked into a psychiatrist's office last week with my self-evaluations. He agreed after taking 40 mins of history that have ADHD-Inattentive type.
Cool. Great. **Now what?**
Everyone keeps saying ADHD is a "superpower" for entrepreneurs and creatives. I've been running businesses and freelancing for 11+ years. Where's my damn superpower? Is it hidden in settings menu? Do I need to buy the DLC? Is it **region-locked** to countries with actual healthcare support, insurance coverage and stimulants availability?
Because right now it's just the meds adjustment period,(body trying to adjust to **atomexetine** side effects), as most type of working meds and stimulants are not available, we just have expensive psych visits, slow and b tier meds, and the sinking realization that I probably passed this onto my kids too.😣
I'm not asking when the meds kick in. I know that's a waiting game and dont have much options here. I'm asking: for those of you diagnosed late in life, when did you stop feeling like you were just broken and start actually working with your brain instead of against it? Was there a moment? A system? A realization?
Late-diagnosed parents were you worried about your kids? How did you navigate that?
Members from Pakistan/India/Bangladesh or anybother developing country how are you managing in places where Adult ADHD barely exists as a concept, let alone treatment option?
I want to know if there is any light at the end of this tunnel or its just an oncoming train.
