x4guide.com: A New Fansite With a Neat Tool, Just in Time for v9.00

Greetings fellow X4 pilots, pirates, and station managers!

I would like to share my contribution to this community as a thank you to the amazing creators who came before me. I present...

X4 Guide (x4guide.com)

X4 Guide is a unofficial, fan-powered resource for pilots, commanders, and managers playing the video game, “X4: Foundations.”

It is still very much a work in progress (as three months of ideating, designing, and implementing wasn't quite enough), but there is one tool I built that I think is good enough to show off:

X4 Supply Chain Calculator

Basically, a hybrid of all the great station calculators, production charts, and other station planning tools and graphics I've found and relied on over the years.

The x4guide.com Supply Chain Calculator

It allows you to visually see and plan around abundances and deficits in your supply chain. Simply enter in how many production modules of each type you want, and it will dynamically calculate the needed wares.

You can hover your cursor over any module or ware, and the tool will dim the rest of the modules in view, highlighting exactly what other modules depend on it or its dependencies.

Pressing the Help button at the top right of the tool will launch an interactive walkthrough of how to use the tool.

Soon, I am going to add an Optimize button, that will run algorithms to auto-optimize your supply chain. When you enter which production modules you are interested in building, it will calculate the exact number of modules needed based on factors like upfront cost and diminishing returns.

Other Planned Features

  • A Tutorials section (how can it be “X4 Guide” if there isn’t a guide?)
  • A Codex, e.g. a wiki but more on how and why and less on raw lore
  • A Station Construction Plans Tool that will allow you to upload and visualize your plans and reorder the build order of modules
  • DLCs toggle at the top of every page, so only relevant content will be shown across all pages, guides, and tools

I look forward to completing these things soon, and would love to hear of your feedback and suggestions for improvements or feature requests!
