poem about wrote about death some yrs ago while grieving loss

Arts

Death,
Where art thou?
I know, you are here.
Somewhere,
Lurking in the dark.
They fear, they dread your name.
And no, I cannot not blame.
For death, you are dreadful.

You stare,
You stare at the eyes of the innocent.
Showing no mercy.
On the tears of the mother,
who carried this sacred life within her.
for nine months.
A miracle of love pure-
A piece of her self.
Gladly, she all endured,
Waiting for this moment when she’d finally meet -
The one in her womb that God did create.
Waited this day
For her dream to come true.
Only to hand it back to you.

Death,
You take.
You take some by surprise.
Waiting by the curves in the highways.
Like a blip in the screen -
One quick slip, a slide-
Screech of a tire-
Metal, glass.
Without a notice,
Gone in a flash.

Death,
To some,
You introduce yourself,
Slowly.
Disguised in a hundred names.
Scratched on cards with hurried pens
Under clinical lights by white clad men
Who try to save with bottle and pill.
As you linger the wards with a sterile grin.
For you know , when you come-
You don’t leave alone.
And you take.
Bit by bit, breath by breath
Drop by drop.

But, death ,
I feel-
You are most cruel
When you enter the mind.
Of the weak and vulnerable
With no permission.
Making yourself at home
Knowing it’s a long road
And you begin
Whispering lies
Day by day
Sowing despair
Infiltrating the veins
Until
You have swallowed them alive
And all that is left is you
And remnants
Of who they were.
Until you
Are them and they are you.
Until
All they seek is you.
And you take them through their own deceived hands.

Death,
You are dreadful
But I fear you not
For you are nothing
That you think you are.
For I have seen you
Face to face.
I have seen you.
Take my family,
And my friends.
I’ve seen them go
But I know they live again.
You can take my all but
You cannot take
My memories.
You cannot take
My love.
You cannot take
Me
Or the essence of who I am and will always be.

I fear you not.
For when all seemed gone and lost
In the darkness - I found myself.
A smile, amidst the tears
A message, in the silence.
Yeah, I found,
Beauty
Among the ashes.
