Cry of car selling in Dubai

🗣 Discussion

I listed my car for sale almost two years ago. I usually change cars every 3-4 years and expected it to sell within a month or two. Instead, it's been sitting on the market for ages.

It's a BMW X5 with only 44,000 km on it when I first listed it. During the first two months of trying to sell it, I added only about 1,000 km.

In those first two months, only around 10 people came to see the car. Two of them even paid for inspections at independent garages. Both inspections came back clean, but then the buyers disappeared at the last minute. Later I found out they ended up buying cars that were roughly half the price of mine.

I originally listed it for AED 245,000, then dropped it to AED 215,000, and now it's at AED 210,000. Realistically, I'd probably let it go for AED 200,000.

The only issue with the car is some scratches on the rear bumper after a taxi driver scraped it. My insurance wasn't great, and the approved repair shop only offered to repaint the bumper. I decided not to do it and instead factored the cost of a replacement bumper into the asking price.

Mechanically, the car is in excellent condition. The mileage has been verified by both independent inspections and AGMC. It still has about 1.5 years of warranty remaining.

What I don't understand is why the BMW market seems completely dead. Every day I get messages from lowballers offering AED 150,000-180,000. At those prices, I'd rather just keep driving it for several more years.

Is anyone else having the same experience selling a BMW in the UAE right now? I'm honestly tired of paying Dubizzle every month just to keep the listing active.

This post is basically a cry for help at this point.
