Why I've decided to step away from my odin 3 in favor of the Steam Deck.
Hey everyone,
Just wanted to share a bit of a realization I’ve had recently regarding my handheld setup, especially for any other parents or busy folks out there.
I’ve been trying to make the Odin 3 my main device for a while now. Don't get me wrong, when a game actually works well on it, the experience is awesome. The hardware is great, and those moments are brilliant. But honestly, most of the time, getting a game to that point requires way too much tinkering for my liking. I'm constantly messing around with settings, swapping drivers, and troubleshooting performance. It has gotten to the point where I can’t just install a game and assume it’ll actually work out of the box.
As a full-time working dad, my gaming time is pretty limited as is. When I finally get some free time, I just want to be able to pick up my device, press play, and relax.
Lately, I’ve realized the Odin 3 is doing the exact opposite. Instead of winding down, I'm spending my energy fighting the device just to get things running. It’s just too much work after a long day.
Moving over to the Steam Deck has made me realize how much I missed that "it just works" experience. Being able to hit the power button, jump right into a game.
Curious if any others hit a similar wall with Android/emulation handhelds and ended up craving the simplicity of the Deck?
This post is not to bash on the Odin 3, the device and hardware is incredible and I'm happy to own one (which I'm looking to sell off). It's just not mature enough from my perspective.
