I know this isn’t a credit score question, but it does involve a credit profile. Hoping that the wealth of knowledge I have learned from this community can bail me out with some insight or feedback.

Late last year, my spouse and I sadly had to go very limited contact with their parents and the relationship with them is in pretty severe conflict. They abruptly announced they were moving away early this year, and purchased a new home in another state.

This morning, we were emailed an “Unusual activity regarding your SSN” notice from Capital One as part of CreditWise. When I went to research the cause I found:

“Associated Address”

It just so happens this new reported address is the NEW home address where my in-laws moved three months ago. My spouse has never lived at this address, has no account or financial ties with their parents. They aren’t co-signed on a loan, not shared ownership of the property, nothing I could think of.

Now, my spouse’s parents are very litigious. They have sued other parties twice over the last few years for very minor things. They also are not that ethical and will do many things flirting with or down-right illegal if they think it is in their best interest or they are entitled to it.

So, here is my question, how big of a concern is this new Associated Address reported to Experian? All three of their bureaus have a credit freeze for both of us, I monitor available tools pretty closely.

I am just trying to think of all the angles and details this might mean. Are the odds their parents did or might be trying to do something? Could this be some wild data broker fluke that added it? Is there a way I can track down more details from Experian on the nature of the Associated Address change or details?

Any thoughts or feedback are very welcome, can respond with any details if needed.
