Rue's mom

I'm not American so, I get this could be a cultural thing, but I find it a bit shocking how Rue's mom was simply out of her daughter's life after season 2. I know in an episode of season 2 she already tells Rue she is going to focus on Gia after she turns 18, but yet. Rue goes through so many difficulties in season 3, it is kind of unbelievable she never calls her mom for help or simply for advice? Like, she is so often in life/death situations, and still does not go to her mom? (If only to enjoy the little time they might have left, it would make sense??) As a Spanish person it was kind of heartbreaking to see how detached from their families they all are, and how they never reach out to them, even in incredibly dangerous or crazy situations. We don't see Cassie either speaking to her mom about her issues or her new OF job, Nate keeps getting beaten up and doesn't ask his dad for help at all, Jules sells herself for a luxurious life, even if her family does not seem to suffer economically, she considers everything is worth the extra money?
