taking a break

hi I am in my first longterm relationship. the past few months have seemed like constant misunderstandings and failures for both of us to listen to each other. its to the point where the only nights we leave feeling good are date nights. the nights we stay with each other overnight there seems to be a disconnect for us. a few weeks ago we wanted to slow down communication but ended up to the same level we used to be at and i think its caused a lot of resentment in my boyfriend. in my mind, taking a break will be a good way to redirect our minds to what we want out of this relationship instead of letting our resentment and shame come out every time we try to talk. there is zero desire for either of us to see other people, and this is not the point of the break. i know that we both would spend it with ourselves and start getting back on track with the person we want to be. its just hard to see anything impactful happening when there seems to be so much emotional distance right now that i feel is only being pulled further when we try to talk about it due to it being so soon and actively living in the consequences of our past actions.

im curious to how GENUINE breaks between two people that really try for each other went. i dont want to hear blah blah breaks are for cheating and whayever because yes stupid people use breaks to cheat but i know that me and my partner wouldnt (and if he does of course that is a dealbreaker) so im not trying to hear any more opinions on that. thanks byeee
