I failed a lot of Engineering courses on my second year at uni.
Hi! I am a sophomore electronics engineering student at a University in SEA. I am currently contemplating switching degrees because of the number of courses I failed this academic year. During the first semester, I failed three classes related to my major (Electronic Devices and Circuits, Circuits and Electronics II, Probability, Statistics and Random Processes in Electrical and Electronics Engineering), and during the second semester, I am already failing another class (Signals and Systems) related to my major.
After failing three classes during the first semester, I considered taking only the prerequisite subjects because I felt like I failed the first semester for taking too much EEE courses. With this in mind, I reduced my semester's Load so that I can maybe pass all the courses that I took for that semester. Instead of taking three EEE courses, I only took two EEE courses together with Physics 3 and Calculus 3 which I surprisingly do not struggle with. The other I passes while the other I failed.
I am already close to becoming a junior student which makes me think that I shouldn't switch majors anymore.
Back when I was applying to uni, I never expected that I would be taking an Engineering degree because most of my applications were for premed, I liked chemistry and liked people and wanted to pursue a career out of these strengths of mine. When I got in the most prestigious school at my country, I didn't mind the program because I knew I am also capable at math. Because of this thinking, I accepted the offer for EcE and I started to like it.
I told my parents before the second semester that I would shift out if I fail another class for my major, now that I failed, I am scared that I might regret switching majors because I am already content with what I am studying it's just that I am failing a lot of classes in my major though the computed grades for these classes are pretty close to the passing mark.
My parents told me that I may not be for this degree and I should try switching majors especially one that I have been eyeing for ever since I started studying at my university which is chemistry/nutrition/food technology. But I am having second thoughts on switching degrees because I like the familiarity that I have built with EcE. I am content with my degree and I am comfortable with my degree.
I am scared of the additional years of studying I would have to do to take medicine and I am also scared of the thought of failing at medicine again.
tldr: I feel pressured being asked to switch majors. I am scared that I may not enjoy medicine as much as engineering. I would like to finish my engineering degree but I am being pressured to switch majors by my family because looking at my grades, EEE is where I only fail. Should I stay at engineering because I am content? Or should I switch majors to see if a different major will treat me better?
